We had our hours cut last year. Came in around April time. Oh, i'm in the building trade btw - we sell building goods, sort of like your Travis Perkins.
Anyway, we were put on a rota system which reduced our hours, but they had to 'garuntee' us 40 hours. What that meant was, if by thursday night you had zero chance of getting in your 40hours by the end of the week, they'd tell you to either start earlier than your rota'd time (on the week you'd be rota'd for slashed hours, you'd be scheduled to start at 11am, so they'd just tell you to start at say, 9am or the normal of 7:30am for e.g.) or you'd lose out on being paid up for 40hours.
I'm on the sick right now, but received a lettre saying they're looking to propose (that means tell lol) a variation in our T&C's & then goes onto say propose a variation in our hours of work.
Have a few lads from work in different departments on my facebook, so got at them, and the general feedback is that they're going to be unable to garuntee us 40hours the way things are.
So they must be telling us they're going to (oops i mean, propose to) take out the part about the 40hours garunteed.
I'm just wondering, surely they can't be so stupid as to have not looked into it beforehand, so, i assume they must be able to do this?
Concern now is, what will be garunteed, if anything. 10 hours a week to be extreme? Pretty pissy.
Will have to call the union on Monday methinks.
