    idle but no revs

any 1 help , ive had a good look around the site , and cant find a similar problem ,

lve got an astra 2.0td 98
it lost power while out driving and got recovered to a garage
the diagnostic came up with heater plug relay

upon further inspection 1 of the heater plugs had snapped the live feed of aswell ,
after fitting the new relay we did manage to get it started , but it would not rev above a lumpy 1k, press the throttle and it sounds worse

after flattening the battery a mains charger was used and with the booster still on it was fine , revving away as though it was fixed ...
but , disconect the booster and it goes back to a lumpy idle of 1k and wont rev , ive done the vault drop ,14.4 normal , 17.1 booster
another thing is you can crank it and it wont usually start untill you let go of the key , then it will fire up
    ive ruled the battery out

so bassicly it will only run and rev if the 17.1 booster is attached ,

    a real headscratcher

glow relay will have been the glow plugs rather than the relay itself, thats just the error it throws up.

i wouldn't put that sort of voltahe through the system either as you can quite easily damage things like control units.

it is possible there is a fault stored but the diagnostic equipment you are using can't see it, you can get this problem with the pump ECU's where you need to get the code directly from the pump using PSG 5 software and remotly powering the ECU.

how have you ruled out the battery? sometimes a faulty one ie with a short inside can cause all sorts of problems.

would be an idea to rule out a bad earth too, the extra voltage/current could have been compensating slightly so try connecting a jump lead from the negative on the battery to the engine

I would check all the earth connections, try a jump lead from bat neg to a good point on the engine an see if that improves things. If not suspect the battery as above post.
