    MK5 Interior LED's.

Hello. Not been on here for a while!

I've got a new MK5 Sporthatch and I'm thinking about changing the Interior Lighting (Speedo,Dash,Switches,CD70,ect) from orange to either White or Red... Can anybody please give me advice on this (either experience of doing it or having it done). I'm a bit concerned about:

    * The reliability of the LED's
    * The visibility of the other colours... compared to the standard orange ones.
    * My Astra is basically brand new and I'm a bit concerned about taking it apart! If I was to get someone else to do it for me what are the chances of damaging/scuffing the trim...

And has anyone got any pictures of different colours please.

    Thanks.
    Joe.

I've a feeling this isn't an easy task as alot of the interior uses SMDs and not bulbs/LEDs - may be wrong mind. I did see a post a while ago when someone had this done and posted piccies, might have been OddJob doing the work if memory serves.

    job is easy as....pie

if you do it yourself then you can look out for any scuffs etc.

also all the colours are either the same brightness or slightly brighter.

all of the kits you can buy have instructions with them.

don't have pictures of the other colours but here is mine

You can buy full kit with leds from www.ledconversions.co.uk
It took me about 4 days to change mine but I was a total beginner when i started but everything went fine.

There are also people changing it for you for an extra cost.
    see this link http://www.vxronline.co.uk/forum/sho...uge+conversion

well each [art you want to do, firstly you remove the part then seperate the bits of plastic so your reveal the circuit board behind it.

then all you need is a little patience and a soldering iron and tweezers.

heat up the solder on one side of the led and wedge it up then heat up the solder on the other side of the led and the led will come off (mind you must remember which way round the leds are ) then all you do is tidy up the solder you just heated up and maybe add some more solder so you have a nice little solder bubble on the board then place your new leds on the circuit board (mind the correct way round) and whilst heating up the solder to make it soft push down on that side of the led.

once you stop heating the solder the solder and the led will weld together, no do the same on the other side.

once you happy the led is in place secure and making good contact with the board you can plug the board back into the car to test to see if all is well..

if so, on to the next one this is where the patience comes in lol
