    Post Idle RPM Way High

    Hi there guys.

I have a question regarding idle speed for a 1999 1.8 16v sport. I bought the car the other week and it had the idle cut out problems which have been spoken about on here quite a bit, anyway a new EGR and a clean throttle body later the cutting out has stopped . However the idle RPM is now at circa 2000 RPM which is clearly too high as it is reducing the revs to pull away in first. Any ideas on how this could be dropped to about 1000 RPM.

    Thanks

I'm not sure on whats causing your problem but mine idles at around 800 I think?.

I'm pretty sure the x18xe1 engine has an idle control valve. It could be having some problems?? Have you made sure that the butterfly is sitting properly in the throttle body?

Is your temperature guage reading OK ?
I had this problem on 1.6 16V - cleaned throttle etc but the problem returned. Noticed temperature guage was not reading - turned out to be a loose connection on the sender. Fiddled with wires and it came back on, still haven't exactly pinned down the problem but tick-over is oK with temp guage working (ECU dosn't get "engine warm" message so keeps tick-over high) Dal

Ah could well be the temp guage as it doesn't seem to work, but i was going to get some new clocks for it this week anyway, i'll see if this cures it.

    Cheers
