    Number plate surrounds?

Anyone know where you can get these from? Like the ones the volkswagen boys and bmw boys have with the dealer name in like germany?

also is it illegal to have shorter number plates, legal spacing but having them say 370mm instead of 520mm?

im pretty sure its illegal to have smaller number plates

You mean having the badge symbol at the side of the plate? if so, theres company's on ebay that make some up.

Having smaller plates is perfectly legal as long as the correct spacing it adhered too. IIRC it's a minimum of 11mm around the edge.
    *EDIT*
    I was right, this'll help.
    http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf

I was running my plates on the minimum size for a while. 5 characters (no 1 or I). They were 375mm wide. Never got stopped as they conformed to the above rules.

As for the surrounds, if you have a shorter plate they wont fit.

nah they are like a number plate holder, such as the chrome ones that irmscher sell, but with german dealer names and numbers at the bottom of them, will try 2 find a pic:

As i said, if your plates only 370mm wide it will be too narrow for the standard size surround.

I'm assuming they'll be on eBay.

Personally, I think it'd look gash on a Vauxhall. Beemers and VAG's I can understand.

I just got the one, it's plain black and go bleep bleep when I get close to things:

Very easy to fit. Would be slightly trickier on the mk4 due to the number plate being on the bootlid. I'll be helping my neighbour fit one to his mondeo when he comes back off holiday. If you're not confident to do the tiny bit of soldering involved, then you can wire it using a chocolate block.
