    Leaking oil pump

Just got my astra 1.6 8v (2001)back from a cambelt fitment (@43k miles) the nice mechanic then informs me that i have an oil leak, and it looks like its the oil pump, although it is not leaking much, it is noticeable. As I am getting rid of this next October (before the MOT is due), can i get away with not doing anything about it other than topping up where necessary, and if not, how much would i be looking at for replacement?

Is the mechanic trustworthy? Not saying it isn't the oil pump but of all the places to have an oil leak that would be one of the most expensive ones

Has this problem on my old tranny van, the pump itself isn't that expensive, it's the labour that costs. Pretty sure you have to strip half the engine down to get to it. On the van it was about £280 i think.

I would take it somewhere else for a second opinion mate as it might well need replacing, nice to make sure though. Once you're sure it needs doing, shop around for some quotes, they can range from like £100 - £300 so you might get lucky!

are you sure it's not just the crank seal? thats what normally leaks and to be honest it should have been changed while the belt was off (with your consent) as it's bugger all added to your bill then.

either way the belt has to come off again
