    How to know your Astra?

    hello all,

well, as the post says, i'd like to know the type of astra i have (engine code, gearbox etc). but how do you tell? i bought this car 3rd hand, and from the badges, i'd say it's a 1993, Vauxhall Astra 2.0i (8-valve). but sometimes when browsing parts sites...i can't seem to find my car. i'd see stuff like GSi 2.0 and SRi 2.0 etc. Are these the same types (hope i'm clear enough)? anyone can assist?

    Look on your log book.

    Otherwise.........
Try your registration number in here (Orange section left-hand side).
    https://www.carcheck.co.uk/
It might give you some details about the model etc of the car.

Every car has a log book that gets transferred to the new owner when he/she purchases the car.

If you haven't got that, you basically don't own the car!!
You can apply for a log book, but that will cost you a bit of money.

Where did you buy it from?

Where are you based? (This might have a bearing on the subject depending)

10th letter of chassis number is the year i.e N=92 and P=93

engine if its a 2.0 8v, will more than likely be a C20NE as it will have a cat under the car, gearbox will be more than likely a F16 or F18

2.0 sri where you mentioned for parts in first post, is usually a 2.0 8v in early models

You paid money for the car? They should have paid you to take it away!

with replies like that - i wish someone would take you away

Best suggestion is grab a pic and post it on here - we'll tell u what it is no problem - defo look for cat underneath tho as it could theoretically be either 20NE or C20NE - not to mention could have had a transplant so could be 20SEH etc etc etc
