    spark plugs maybe?

over the last week or so, ive found my car taking an extra half second to start up. its feels like the spark plugs could be on their way out.

how often do they need changing on a zlet? mines on 58k and only had it for 7kmiles and although has had a FSH, would that include new sparkies?

    anything elese it could be?

Yes it could be spark plugs...

But I would check the battery first, as it costs nothing and takes very little time.

Check that the terminals are secure and fairly clean.

If you have a standard Vauxhall maintenance free freedom battery, there will be an indicator. Check the colour, it should be green to signify it is healthy and holding charge.

Looking at the spark plugs may also give you an indication of the state of your engine

    Must read http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/t.../diagnosis.htm

You can also get a free battery test at Halfords

ok, the battery is a non vaux one so im guessing its been changed since new.

how do i go about checking the plugs? i uprated my vectras plugs and leads but other than the leads looking good, i cant say that i noticed much difference.

how much roughly for a vaux replacement?

Just because the battery has been changed since new, doesn't mean it's holding it's charge. As mentioned it might be worth getting a quick, free check done on it from somewhere just to be sure.

Vauxhall spark plugs are fairly cheap you should be looking at between 2 and 4 quid each.

There is a how-to on how to change the spark plugs below (you will need a torque wrench):
