    Whistling when turning the wheel.

Hi, was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have an 2001 Astra G 1.6 8v. When turning corners, parking or 3-point turns.. I hear a whistling sound coming from the front. From a small bit of googling, it seems that this is a symptom of the bearings going (I hear no knocking noise but I do get vibrations when doing 65-70+mph).

I recently took it to Vauxhall for a different issue and they said the O/S/F Track rod end had 'excessive play' on their quality checks. There was no mention of 'bearings'?

Are there any checks I can do to determine which it is? Thanks!

Same here with my 1.6 8v.
Is it a wistle or a high hum?

Whistle/whine on full lock is the power steering pump, but if it only does it at lock it doesn't mean anything - it just means the pump is straining because it's at full lock...ease it off a tiny bit and don't force lock on when turning...

If it whines when you gently turn corners then it may be on the way out...

Vibration at speed means your wheels need balanced...cheap and easy to get done at any decent tyre shop!

See my reply - a 'high hum' at full lock is just the power steering pump straining...mine's done this since new.

Thanks for the updates. Definitely gives me somewhere to start looking. It's a whining noise and doesn't happen at only full lock.
