    Smile Red Astra G 1.8 Sport 99

    Hello out there,

Can anyone tell me if after you do a basic self service ( Oil, Filters and Plugs)on the Astra do you need to have the engine management system updated ie by a garage or something?

    Cheers....

And no you don't. the INSP light will come on when the car thinks it needs servicing but it's easy to reset when it does.

    Stick key in ignition
press down trip meter button and hold
    turn ignition on
wait a few secs ans the INSP will disappaer

Cheers, but what I mean is the car is being a swine at stalling, now and again the engine light comes on. The car only seems to stall when you come to lights or a junction and you dip the clutch. If your coming off the motorway and you knock it outa gear and coast to the slip road it does not stall? A mechanic once told me it's prob your co sensor on the exhaust pipe coming from your manifold thats prob got crap on it?
But last year it went to a garage for a full service and it stopped doing it for a while...

With respect to you stalling at junctions, your throttle body needs cleaning out.

I have the same engine in my car (x18xe1) and have to do it every 6 months or so. It's a fairly common issue and relatively simple to sort out.

Take a look here for more detail on how to do it....

    Thumbs Up

Just cleaned the housing with some carb cleaner, blimey I've seen my chimney cleaner than this!
Car runs sweet now excellent thanks..

While I'm on about the engine can anyone tell me why the 1.8 sport has only 115 bhp and yet the CDX model has 123 bhp?
    Cheers..

Those figures are quoted for different engines.

    115 - x18xe1
    123 - z18xe

The torque figures are the same though and really there is naff all difference in performance.
