    Oil filter ****

So I've drained all the oil out the engine and ready to change the oil filter but the shti chain wrench I bought from Halfrauds earlier doesnt fit the filter properly and its not tightable!! Been trying for an hour to get the thig off but no luck and cant drive anywhere to get another one!

Ive had this filter on for about 7 months now shall I just leave the same one on or is it pretty important to change the filter at same time as oil?

when i changed my filter i had the same problem i jus used a screwdriver and a hammer and punched a hole in the filter then twisted it off, i then put the new one one a put in the new oil.

just be careful when punching the hole bud.

Use a nice wide flat screw driver and 'tap' the base (Where it meets the block) round so it moves round.

Just ram the screwdriver through the filter sideways and then you can turn it easily. It will f*** your old filter but you won't be needing it anymore! Just watch your fingers.

Cheers for the advice people, luckily I 've got a few mechanics who live down my road and managed to borrow a better wrench in the end to get it off! Wot a pain in the arse this oil change turned out to be tho- took me about 4 hours! lol

I'm trying out Castrol magnatec semi 10w40 this time instead of the Vxl fully synthetic 5w30 I used last time.

Good choice mate, I swapped a couple of weeks back from VXL 5w-30. Now using Fuch's 10w-40 semi, not had any problems with it smoking and doesn't seem to be using much either, had to keep topping it up when it was on 5w-30.

Tim - for gods sake dont use castrol magnetec on the zlet

its one of if not the worst oils u can use in this engine

i destroyed my head cos of using that stuff just cos it saved a few quid

its ok on some engines but the ZLET runs soooooo hot this stuff breaks down within a few miles , goes as thin as water then generally reaks havoc
each to their own though but id advise getting some pukka Vx 10w40 (4 for the price of 3 on trade club) use the AOC discount!

Vxl 10/40 semi @ £8 a bottle is just the ticket on trade club

as for the filter - i used to have the same trouble and after hammering a flat blade on the thing i now use a proper socket like this
