Electrical Fault - No one can solve.

    Hi,

    I have a 51 Mk4 Astra.

The car elec. management light came on a month or so ago and on taking it to a specialist garage they replced the coil pack and the spark plugs after reading the error codes. Brilliant I thought - the end of that....

2 week later the same again...on the motorway and slight loss of power and the light is back on. The garage look at it for free. Same error code - cant see any problems. Only thing that seems to be linked is the in car temp dash which goes up to 70 degrees and the just blank lines on the display. They clear the codes and hand it back having fixed the temp display

Last friday on the motorway ( it always fails on the motorway at 70mph) the lights back on but this times it flashing and the power loss/ throttle response is noticeable. They have looked at it for 2 days and have driven it all over and no problems.

TODAY - driving to work on the motorway and exactly the same happens. I'm off to take it to Vauxhall ( with a kidney for payment!).

Has anyone got any advice or seen similar - they say it CANT be linked to the temp display on the dash BUT when it goes haywire so does my car?? Logic says it got to be linked?

Any help/suggestion appreciated prior to Vauxhall taking my eyes out.

    Cheers
    Paul

Hmm, the temp display goes to 70? Is that the dial on the speedo? it should get happily to 80+ under normal conditions.

As for the 'display goes to lines, is this the display above your radio on the centre console? If so then this is not related to the speedo dial temp gauge, it just shows you outside temp.

I have had a sinilar problem on my 53 reg Mk 4 and had the same response from Vaux garage. (replacement of plugs and coil pack)The EML light comes on randomly about once a month but before that the speedo dips out and then when the revs falls engine stalls (but starts again on key). Am taking it back on Weds and would appreciate any tips before it costs me an arm and a leg - already paid £130 for it only to happen again in heavy traffic the very next day. Any one?

Well I add my two cents for what its worth but.
After doing the same activity over and over again I'll point you in the one item thats never checked.
    The wiring.
Check all wiring and connectors for signs of damage or corrosion and your probably find the fault.
I kept getting a sensor fault in my van and all sorts was done but after £2000 of work from both VX and our local the fault turned out to be a 5 pence connector and 10 pence bit of wire.
I'm like a bad penny, old, dirty, and appears when not wanted.
