Just before Christmas in my van I was on a small side road junction, trying to get across a very busy main road. I went to pull out just slightly and though better of it as a bus was coming down the hill quicker than I expected.
As I stopped (basically lurched forward and then stopped) I heard a small skidding sound but thought nothing of it, until a bloke was at my window saying I had hit his car??? He said I reversed into him??
His car was half on the road and half on the pavement. The very small and nearly non existent damage was on the rear of his drivers side wing?!? I said what are you on about, how I on earth could I have hit you there? Let alone revearse into you???
I told him he was an idiot and that I wasn't even going to entertain him, he then spouted it was a crime to leave the scene of an accident without giving my details. So I gave them him just to cover my self and thought nothing of it tbh.
Anyhow he has reported it and my insurance company rang me and asked what happened. I told them the above and the fact I honestly thought he was trying it on. They said I may have to fill out a claim form but will be in touch.
I have heard nothing until today....
They have decided I was at fault and are paying the third party!!!!!!! What the hell is that all about? I have never filled a claim form in, they have no details of where the event happened, they have no evidence of me. Yet have taken it as my fault???!!
I am truly gob smacked! How can this be and is there some sort of procedure they must take before this decision is taken?
