    Hi Guys

it's time for my 20011.6 8v (i know i know, it could be better) club to have its service and MOT, this time i wana save some cash so i'm going to have a go my self (with a litle help)

i lost my service book last year so i'm not sure what needs to be done at the 50k service interval,

if anyone can let me know what needs to be done and what parts I should get woud be much apreciated.

I'm assuming the cambelt & waterpump were done at 40,000, if notm get that done.

In regards to doing the service yourself:

    Oil change
    Oil filter
    Air filter
    Fuel filter
    Pollen filter
    Spark plugs

All can be picked up for around £40 - 50. Give Mark at AutoVaux a ring, top bloke and very helpful.

Plenty of guides etc in the how-to section if you need help, also the search button is your friend. HTH

Timing belt is (as far as I know it's the same) 40,000k or 4 years, whichever is soonest.

Thanks for the feed back guy's

timing belt was done at 4 years. cars 8 now with 52 on the clock

i'll get it checked over when it has MOT done, not sure about waterbottle, is there anything i can look for to see if it is obviusly old?

and also what oil is best i've seen lots of threads about people using different viscositys but what is it meant to be? and how much will i need for a full change.

    Thanks

If the car is standard, the standard GM 10W40 stuff is best. In order to do an oil change you'll need to buy the 5 litres of it. But only use 3.5 or 4 litres of that. The rest can be used to top it up when needed. Obviously you'll need a new oil filter as well.

Waterbottles very rarely need replacing, basically so long as it's not leaking it's okay. But if you want it nice and clean then you can change your coolant. But this would involve draining the system, removing the waterbottle, cleaning it, then refilling the system - a lot of effort!
