    We had one years ago and was not too bad really took it in a quarry just before we sold it and it survived, I bought just so I could get to mountain bike races, big boot and loads of room and quite cheap nowadays I think, ours was the diesel

    2.4? hmm no one of the few we've not had / borrowed.

    The 2.2 is the best of the diesels but has the common problem of injector seals going.

    The 2.2 petrol is ok but not really a 4x4 engine

    The 3.2v6 is fun but out the lot the 2.2 is probably the best, the older diesels never really where upto much imo

    those 2.4 petrols are quite rare, only in the early frontera's.

    belive the bottom ends are not too strong on those, can't think who's engine it is actually

    I had a 2.5 TDS (Frontera B) which was ok. The 2.5 was an old lump though, originally devised from a marine engine - it had 4 seperate cylinder heads.

    I think the most reliable was the 2.8 Isuzu engine, but the clutch setup is very expensive to replace.

    The 2.2 was availabe later so probably the best for replacement parts etc.

    If you are thinking of buying one, do not buy a Frontera A, as they were gash.

    Here's a few pics of my modded one (as requested) - plenty of bits available and easy to make them look a bit more modern.

    In the words of someone I know who had one;

    "Utter shite, buy a proper 4x4 like a Land Rover".

    Edit: He was meaning a Frontera in general, not just that engine.

    I hear you but the amount of people who've taken on the green ovals in their Frontys and won is considerable.

    There are too many damn engines to chose from. Ideally I want the 2.8 or the 2.5 but getting difficult to find!
