Astra 1.7 53 reg cdti gone strange after short thrash in neutral?

After waiting ages to pull out from a busy junction, I forgot to put it in 1st and gave it a short thrash, about 40k revs, in neutral. After that it had intermitent power loss/juddering all the way to work.
On the way back, the problem was the same but with added thick black smoke bellowing out - embarrassing in rush hour. This stopped about half way home.

    Any ideas what's happened? Cheers.

    40,000 revs? On a derv? That's a record

Possibly over-fuelled it then it took a while to clear. How is it now?

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the wait.

The thrash blew off the fat hose connected to the intercooler!? Stuck it back on with a new jubilee clip and now it runs and sounds as it did before - but now the dash emissions light is on.

Initially, it went off after the fix but next morning the bugger was on again. Off again the day after but on again now - not flashing though.

I had to drive about 17 miles after it blew so have I done some seriou$ damage or could it be just a sensor?
