k n cone filter fitted but car now cutting out

Am posting this on behalf of my mate who has a sri-t. He.s just fitted a k&n 57i cone filter and we've gone out for a test drive. The car drove fine until booting it slightly when it cut out. Pulled over and started it up again - its idling fine but when he rev'd it and let it drop, it cut out after going under 500 rpm. Tried again and same thing. He has recently (only couple of weeks ago) put a new vxr turbo on it himself and has had it serviced and mot'd since. It is running stage 3 but at the service only had standard cheap plugs put in. Could this have something to do with it? Any ideas appreciated!

I would start with changing the plugs....
As the car was remapped with other plugs and afterwords putting in different ones can make these problems...

Tell your m8 to stick with the same plugs as during the remap.

Is the AFM fitted the correct way round, as guess it was removed when fitting the cone?

Update - We thought it may be his baileys d/v causing problem as it looked stuck open so swapped it with my one... and still having exactly same problem. His boost gauge is connected to same pipe as d/v and that is showing no pressure at all when you rev it. Also d/v is not dumping.

The car was undrivable due to it kept cutting out. So we tried unplugging the MAF sensor and although all the lights come up on the dash it does drive and doesn't cut out. Have put hand over inlet pipe and the turbo is sucking in air ok so it seems that is ok. I'm thinking must be plugs? Would blown plugs cause these symptoms?

All boost/vacuum pipes look ok and MAF is round the right way.

Seems a bit of a coincidence that the plugs go faulty at the same time an induction kit is fitted.

Was it running perfectly until it was fitted?

Yeah was running fine but had just had a service where they fitted £4 spark plugs! Was thinking maybe they blew due to more air coming through from the cone? Bear in mind he's running about 280hp
