High level brake lamp + Boot CDL

    Hi Guys,

My 02 Convertible has 2 problems, 1st is that the high level brake light doesn't work at all and also the boot does not unlock on the remote. Could these issues be linked or is there any common faults here?

Also are they easy to replace if they are both buggered? (Cant say I've looked yet)

Also my clock bulbs seem to be blowing 1 by 1 I now have the far left and far right inop, what are they like to replace and should i use standard bulbs?

    Thanks

i know it sounds stupid but make sure you unlock the boot with the key (key in lock not remote unlok) then lock the car. check if it locks. then unlock and see if it opens. you may have just deadlocked it.

With both faults you may find the wiring is broken where it does from the boot lid into the car. My coupe one was slightly unplugged when I got it so trace the wiring inside the car and check that too

Cheers AS, I assume the loom passes through from the bootlid into the car somewhere near the boot hinges then? (Like I say I've not looked)

I'll try and take a look tomorrow, does it involve removing and trims etc?

    Thanks

Yeah the loom runs on the passenger side of the boot from memory. To get at the connector for the loom it will probably be inside the car by the back light

I had a quick look at lunch and the connector is in the boot near the rear 1/4. It looks like there is an earth point mounted to the rear 1/4 and there is a brown wire not connected, it looks like it may have come from there. From a quick look it seems there are a couple of wires just before the plug that are broken so I'll have to rip the trims out and get them soldered!

Once again you seem to be bang on AutoSparks! You are a star mate thanks alot!

I'll let you know how the repair goes!

Good to know my advice is right sometimes

Try to run a extra run of wire through the grommet so the repair is in the boot lid and boot area. A hard soldered connector in that rubber grommet will be prone to breaking again very quickly
