    Service Cost

    Morning All,

I just called Vauxhall in Milton Keynes to book my car in for a service (GSI MK4) and was gobsmacked by the price quoted.

    For the following:

    Oil filter
    oil change,
    oil and fuel system flush
    New spark plugs
    100 and whatever point check

    159!!

Can this be correct!? Surely it is more?!?!

    Well put it this way....

If you were a paid up member of the club and had access to trade club prices you could get all the serviceable items above for 18+VAT

Take half an hour out of your life and job done

But if you think having a dealer stamp is oh so good then you tell me if its a good price!

Right. At lunch today i decided to pop into Evans Halshaw Vauxhall in MK to get a price for a service on my girlfriends corsa (05 plate) and they quoted 180 for a major service.
I then asked why her 1.2 corsa was more expensive to service than my 53 plate GSi 2.0 turbo (130) which I was quoted this morning. (159 with engine and fuel flush)

Their answer was that she would get a Vauxhall Service, but I would get a Evans Halshaw service.... I then asked what the difference was between the two and he said nothing apart from the stamp in the book. She would get a vauxhall logo stamp in her service book and I would get a Evans Halshaw one from the same place, using the same parts....... pick the bones out of that.

Doesnt make sense to me - but he said the difference was the age of the car, and thats it. So in theory I wouldnt have full Vauxhall Service history (because that is what I want) but in some ways i would because it was done at Masterfit

Reading from your first post you were quoted for a minor service, a major service should also include air filter & fuel filter. What service is it your due (ie. 4, 5 etc)?

    Hi Dave,

Apologies, but a air and fuel filter was also included in the price quoted in the first post I made (forgot to put them in) which was why i couldnt believe the price.

This will be the 4th service - Cambelt/water pump has already been done because vauxhall quoted me over 400 to get this done a few months back. They defo said the 159 is a major masterfit service - i just couldnr understand why a vauxhall stamp was more expensive than a Evans Halshaw stamp even though all work was done in the same place, and the same parts are used...

Evans Halshaw will have their own service plans (being a large multi-franchise dealer its often the case that they have their own internal offers & own internal targets etc.). TBH aslong as it has a dealer stamp in the book then thats all you should worry about, youll still have a Vauxhall dealer invoice to show where it was done.
