    Brake Upgrade Help

    Hi Everyone

I've decided that I want to upgrade my brakes, but i'm not really sure what I need to get. I have seen this set on ebay and was wondering wether they would be ok for my 2.2 (5 Stud).

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-ASTRA...1%7C240%3A1318

If they fit what else would I need complete the upgrade? Would I need new mounting brackets, etc.

    Many Thanks

    Rob

You will need caliper carriers to upgrage to the 308 discs. I was going to do this to my car but was very fortunate to end up with a 322 vxr setup instead. If you need them I have a set of brand new GM caliper carriers that will allow you to fit these discs and upgrade your brakes. I bought them from vauxhall and before I could order my new discs I stubled across the 322 setup so ended up with that.

OK but shit pads IMO (need warming up to get up to temp) Yellowstuff are so much better

To fit those front brakes you'll need a new pair of caliper carriers - cost £50 each from Vauxhall under part number 93179706

the rest will be a direct fit

just check you have the later Lucas type rear calipers (smooth caliper body) as opposed to the earlier Bosch ones (ridged caliper) cos the pads differ. Seeing its a 2.2 it should be Lucas but check anyway

Personally speaking Id just uprate the fronts to 308mm discs, pads of your choice, caliper carriers and be done with it

no need to uprate the rear pads so if u dont need new discs/pads on the rear then dont bother.

If you were a paid up AOC member you could access trade club at Vauxhall and take advantage of the 308mm disc/pad kit for £48+vat, team that up with the caliper carriers for £100 and youve got turbo spec brakes for £150!

    Cheers for your comments guys.

Think I might have to become a fully paid member and just do the fronts.

awd2510 how much would you like for the carriers.

i bought my 308 discs carriers and calipers for £100

best mod on my car by far, imo quite a difference to the standard 280's that my coupe came with

try to get some second hand ones m8

its quite common for the guys with the mk5 1.9cdti's to upgrade to the vxr break set up so thats worth a look

thats what my 308's are off (exactly the same as the the coupe turbo/gsi set up)
