    Post Camshaft Query

How the hell do you tell the difference which is an inlet and which is an exhaust cam??

i have 2 sets of Z18XE Camshafts all of which look exactly the same, im trying to work out the pairs so i can send off to be reprofilied!

3 of them have Big 'I's on but one doesnt, but then within them 3 that have 'I's on 2 of them are exactly the same but one has different markings on!

Are the inlet and exhaust cams exactly the same so im worrying about nothing?? or are they different?

    HELP

sorry all i can see is that the x18 and z18 share the same cams in terms of part no's... doesnt tell me how to tell the difference

this is a proper rookie suggestion here but...

you could look at them in a pair (in theory one should be a total opposite to tother)... ie when a cylinder is taking on fuel/air it wont have its exhaust valve open so the lumps if you like should be on tother side of cam, to the other one... if you get my gibberishy drift

    do u actually have a Z18 yourself?

you could whip off the cam cover and see if they are noticeably different then go from there

IIRC with the lobes pointing in the same direction, the sprocket locating pins should be 180 degress out on a pair
