What petrol do you use? Zafira GSi (Z20LET)

I usually fill my tank up with half Shell V-Power unleaded and Half standard Shell unleaded.

I was told that the Shell V-Power wasnt the best to use in my car as it burns hotter due to the higher octane levels. The reasoning behind this (I was told) is that it can burn out the valves quicker, but was told to double check my manual for which recommended octane level of fuel to use.

    Any comments/advice folks?

the ECU will detect the octane level and adjust everything accordingly

I've used mostly V-power in mine for the last 3 years, no signs on smoke yet!

I'v just had a peek in my Supplement to Owners Manual TS1517-3 and found this:

Octane requirement (petrol mode, RON(1) )

    unleaded 95 (2)
    or unleaded 98 (2)
    or unleaded 91 (2&3)

    (1) Standard high-quality fuels, eg. unleaded DIN EN 228, value printed in bold: recommended fuel.

    (2) Knock control system automatically adjusts ignition timing accordning to grade of fuel used (octane number)

    (3) If no unleaded premium grade fuels are available, 91 RON can be used, taking care to avoid severe engine loads and driving at full throttle, as well as driving in mountainous terrain with a large payload.

Does the 2002 Zafira GSi 2.0 Turbo (Z20LET) have a "knock control system"?

The reason I ask is my idling timing gives me the odd blip (drop of about 50-100 revs from normal 750-800 revs) since I stuck all normal Shell unleaded in. (Normal shell unleaded is octane 95 V power is 98.

    Anyone know?

I used to put in shell optimax stuff but now just put tesco normal 95 in, times are hard it doesn`t seem to mind though.
