    Driveshafts

This is probably a long shot! and in the wrong section, but i figured i would get a better response here
But does anyone know if the drive shafts from a petrol model Mk3 Astra are different to a diesel model Mk3 Astra? or does it depend on the gearbox used?

As my drivers side one is starting to click, suggesting its pretty worn out, since my car has done nearly 128k
Probably the ONLY Astra Mk3 sitting on Corsa D SXI rims!
And Now a Diesel on Discs all round!

Just change the CV not the whole shaft

I was only asking, as it might be cheaper to change the whole shaft than just the CV

are you going to do the work yourself?
i reckon a c/v joint would cost around £20/30 for a remanufactured unit and £30 labour to fit

Chances are I would be doing the work myself, or get someone to assist me in doing it, but that doesn't sound to bad, but can that be done in situ, or does the shaft have to come off?

If its the outer one all you do is slide the boot back, find the 'C' clip in the grease and spread it apart then tap the CV off.

sounds like a simple enough job, Thanks chaps!
now all I gotta do is determine which one it is! though I presume its the outer since it only clicks whilst steering

the outer c/v's are most common to go but the inners can fail too.

drive full lock in a carpark and listen for what side you think its coming from.
