    Possible Thermosat Problem????

    Hi

    I have a 2002 1.8 Astra Coupe engine Z18XE .

It does not seem to be getting up to temperature . If i take it on a long run it will go just below 80 on the temperature guage for a very short time if driven fairly hard ,which I have done soley to see if I could get the guage to move , then when I return to driving it normally it soon drops back to virtually zero normally sits at the second line at the start of the guage.

I suspect it's the thermostat but the heater seems to be working normally if the thermostat was stuck open would the heater still work as well as it seems to be doing.

Also I topped up the coolant a while ago and just put in pure coolant which I didnt mix with any water ,would this cause my problems

    Thanks

I am pretty certain that it'll be your thermostat stuck open, Part available at vxl for about 37 quid on trade club, Bought mine the other day, but due to work and all that haven't got round to fitting mine (also a Z18XE)

Heater will still blow warm/hot air even if the thermostat is stuck open - the engine will still get warm but the thermostat being open allows water to circulate through the radiator all the time meaning the engine rarely reaches the normal operating temperature.

Don't think the coolant would be a problem though.

For what it costs to have a thermostat fitted, i'd do that to cancel it out.

Been quite a few threads on this in the past week with the same symptoms etc. So there'll be plenty of stuff to read on it without clicking back very far
