    tyre recommendations

I had a look on the search and found surprisingly few thread aboout this.

I'm almost due for 2 new front tyres and don't know what to get. Mine are 205/50R16 and it's a 2.0 DTi so I don't need them rated to 170mph!

I do quite high mileage as I travel for work so looking for a good balance between grip and longevity.

gone thru Goodyear, Pirelli and Yokohama tyres in the past. I personally prefered the feel of flying around corners in the Yoko's.

Another idea is Avon tyres... sister company of Cooper tyres

Have been very impressed with the wear on my previous Goodyear Eagle Ventura's, think they did 26,000 on the front pair (mine is petrol but anything over 20,000 is good for me), around £60 per tyre fitted when i got them a few years back.

My current Toyo Proxes CF-1's are superb for the slightly less than £60 per tyre f&b'd. I'm very impressed with the handling though they are wearing quicker than the Goodyears did, probab;y 23-24,000 on the front before they need changed - which will be next month! I'd have them again, they have a lip on the tyre too to look after your alloy's too.

I may try some Falken 452's next time, £55 or so f&b'd but I've heard they may wear a little quick. Time will tell!

Many here also rate UniRoyal Rainsport II's but they're a little more expensive ~£65 per tyre f&b'd but unsure myself on wear.

I've had some similar priced Yoko's which were absolutely horrible, very quick wear and pants handling.

My local Gate's Tyres - I know the manager and used to work with him elsewhere so everytime I check I am actually getting a decent discount!

Best tyres I had on my 2.0DTi (same size) was the Bridgestone Potenza RE720. Harder wearing than the RE050, excellent grip, really strong sidewalls so handled well and didn't squash like most other tyres on the front of a 2.0DTi. I seem to remember them being about £75 each.

The Firestone TZ200 is also an excellent tyre, similar to the RE720 but harder compound - my housemate got 45k out of a pair of those on the front of his DTi Astra.
