lowering at the moment - advice needed

    hiya,
I'm in the middle of lowering my astra. I'm just about finished the two front struts.

It's starting to get dark here in Scotland and it's snowing on and off lol. I'm wondering, if I have lowered the front two and not the back two yet, is the car driveable? It's going down by -40mm btw

I know the back springs are apparently easy, how long do you recon it would take to change them? Might go for it in the dark with a head torch lol.

it will be fine. that's how a lot of people who do quarter miles have theirs set up to keep weight on the front wheels

However drag racers wont have soft original springs, they will be rock hard so energy isn't wasted bouncing through the back suspension.

The only thing you'll find is that around corners it will feel a bit sloppy at the back as the car will mostly roll at the back as the front doesn't have much travel. It can lead to the back sliding out over bumps if you are cornering but nothing major as long as you don't drive like a loon

I gotta get my suspension sorted out as I have this trouble just that the front has no travel (sat on bump stops) so all the rolling happens at the back which feels crap.

lol thanks chaps. In the end I just went for it. Just finished up now. spent the past hours or so in the dark with a head torch on. Glad I did the front in the daylight and left the back til last. Took me a while to figure out how to get the rear springs out cause the hub wouldn't go down far enough and the seats were well attached to the arm but a bit of bouncing the hub up and down and one popped out so I just repeated the technique on the second one. That's me all lowered by -40mm

Thanks again for your help. I'm off to get something to eat and something hot to drink cause I'm freezin and straving

How do you find it lowered 40mm?

Been considering lowering my estate, not sure on 40mm though as lots of speed bumps around here, also a few potholes where I go fishing.

    hiya,
I haven't driven it much since doing it. Still trying to warm up lol. I did got down a local road with speed bumps (both the kind that take the whole with of the road and the little ones that are like a blob in the middle of the lane) and had no problems.

Will let you know how I get on over the next day or two as I drive it more.

I took a pic from the side before I started so I'll take another in the light tomorrow so you can see before and after. I believe it will lower slight more as it settles over time from what I'm told.
