I recently bought a Garmin widescreen sat nav system and the mk4 sat nav centre console, then worked away in my garage to get it fitted, heres a little write up for you.
I started off going to the flower shop for some foam to make a base for the sat nav to sit in, then once shaped I fibreglassed it to strengthen.
I decided to test it next to make sure it fitted
Right all looks well,
I decided to smooth the lines in the console next so it didnt have that join line in the middle and top, after sanding the unit down it was ready for primer
I had a bit of trouble with the textured plastic but time and effort sorted that out. After flatting the centre console was nice and smooth ready to paint.
After a a few coats of white the unit looked mint, i also re painted my cd holder to give it a new shine!
The fibreglass unit was screwed into the top part of the centre console and is now locked in place. Also the wires were hidden behind the console
To power the unit i have another cigar lighter under the dash, to power the garmin unit which works on the igition so it goes off when my keys come out which is handy.
Here is a pic of the unit fully installed
This is a must do mod for any astra owner it looks amazing and is fairly simple to do.
I will try get some detailed pics up tonight or tomorrow
