Decided to buy my girlfriend a nice chirstmas present this year so I went off to a car auction with the intention of buying an MX5 for her. The MX turned out to be a bit on the moody side of things. So I bought an Astra diesel saloon instead. Not the most romantic of cars but I figured that it'd be a superb bus for ferrying her to work, motorway trecking up to her folks and generally doing all the less glamorous things in life, cunningly leaving my next car to have no responsibilities for being sensible at all.
It hasn't worked, GF is 5 foot tall and not a fan of parking, we live in the middle of a busy town with on street parking. As such she's still using her dear old Metro and the Astra is sitting there, being redundant. Apparently it's far too big.
I, on the other hand, quite like the Astra. I like that it seems to be making around 55mpg, twice as good as the 306 GTI-6 it's replaced. It's also really quite comfy and actually seems to be well bolted together, appart from the boot lid which is just a really poor designed piece of bent metal.
So anyway, we now have three cars, a Saxo VTS which is still broken after a trip to the ring 2 years ago, a 15 year old Metro which has been in the family from new and a diesel Astra, which will probably do about 5000 miles this year as I get the train to work.
Hi. I'm shit at cars.
