    Glo plug light

Hi,Ive noticed for the past couple of days that the glo plug light does not come on on my dash.
The car starts no problem, the eml comes on and off due to the egr valve,so the bulbs should be ok.
    Its a 1.7td mk4 estate,anyone any ideas on this?

Everything else works fine, all dash lights etc... just the glo plug light not showing!

As far as I know its only meant to come on when they're needed to start the car. If its below a certain temperature then the light will come on, otherwise I believe it is safe to just start when ready

Ah,never really noticed before,if thats the case then it explains it as its been a touch warmer past couple of days.
Just thought Id stumbled on a post somewhere before about no glo plug light meaning something needed replacing.
    Thanks!

Yeah I thought that it was meant to always come on but I read up on it once and found out otherwise

Mines barely ever come on, it only seems to come on if the temp is below 1 degree! Best thing I can suggest is if it gets cold again soon just nip out and go to start the car, if it comes on, you know it works fine then

    On my 2.0DTI (Y plate)

The light only comes on if below a certain temp (I think its below 0c), and only after a long period of inactivity - i.e. we can leave it for 12 hours after turning off to starting again, when its been below freezing outside, and the light wont come on

    Hope this helps you.

is it the old 8v diesel?
if so should come on really, later ones are as above

and also if it is then the EGR valves can be taken apart fairly easily on those to free off, had to do mine when i bought it

Yeah,it is an old 8v derv, took out the egr valve and gave it a good clean, but the light still comes on for it,gonna take it to a vaux dealer at the end of Jan,and get it blanked and removed from the computer.

Just had new plugs put in,injectors serviced etc.. a few months ago.

can it be blanked on these? i didn't think it could.
found the plunger in mine to be seized solid, had to persuade it a little but it cured it permenantly.

has the light ever worked since you've had the car?
not impossible for someone to have removed the bulb

Glo light used to come on all the time until I started the engine, just past couple of days it hasn't come on.

Im pretty sure they can be blanked, will find out at the end of the month anyway lol.

if there is no problems starting then when tech 2 is on get them to give it a quick check if it's still not working.
they can actuate the light, relay ect
