    Bonnet catch stuck!

    Just tried to open bonnet but catch making a noise,when lever is pulled and now cable on lever feels slack,also wee arrow bit that comes out grille not coming forwards,i can grab arrow bit,but bonnet still will not open, any ideas?(mk4 astra)

    Could be that the release cable has snapped! Mine got stuck once but it was because I'd tried to bodge mount something behind the front grill.

    If the bonnet is raised a little like it usually is after you pull the lever, try pushing it back down just enough so it doesn't click back into place and then pull the tab forward on the grill.

    If it doesn't work, I've no idea.

    Just had an anther mess around with it and the catch with the arrow is working ok,it is the catch with the cable that won't pop the bonnet up,i can hear the cable moving the catch it is as if the thing is rusted at the spring bit,can i get to this from under the car and operate it manually?

    if this works then the cable needs adjusting. there is a 8mm bolt on a bracket holing the cable to the front panel. loosen the bolt and pull the cable away from the catch a bit then retighten bolt. job done
    no comment

    my zafira catch was like this and have had the same bother with quite a few cars in work

    Tip: If you haven't got a mate handy, you can do it yourself by having your door open wide, pulling the catch with your left hand, and with your right hand, reach over between the A pillar and the door, to the corner of the bonnet you can reach, and hit the bonnet. Should jump it off the catch onto the safety catch. Works for me.
