You what?! How much for paint?

Hope this is the right forum for the job...

Over the coming weeks i'm planning to get the engine cover painted & possibly also calipers. I've a black MK4.

I'll have to get the g/f to work some photoshop magic, but the colour i have in mind is the same orange you see on the Focus ST as it probably has been done before, but i've not actually seen it on any of the Astra forums. A bit of googling & i believe it's called "Electric Orange".

First off, i know the Hammerite stuff is ok for the calipers, but not sure if i'd need different paint altogether for a plastic engine cover??

Secondly, i went into Halfords to see what they had & it was quite poor actually. The orange sprays that they had were dark orange & not what i want.

    .......eBay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brake-Caliper-...1%7C240%3A1318

    £25? I don't bloody well think so!!

Does anyone know if 'paint is paint' or if i'd need different paint for the 2 jobs?

Also, what'd be a good bet for this shade of orange at a decent price? Something like B&Q maybe? I dunno, i'm at a loss. lol.

yea use hammerite 'direct to rust' for the calipers,(bout a fiver) and u'll have to find the best match in a spray for the engine, should look very nice when done, i haven't seen it done before either

for the engine cover id recommend rubbing it down a bit first with some scotch brite and then between coats rub it down again when dry before spraying again. gets a much better finish, smoother

make sure you either get a shot blaster or a wire brush to the calipers first though. And do them off the car.

ahh, i must've posted up poorly...

I'm not asking how to do the job, as i've looked into that.
I'm looking for where to be picking up this paint as even on eBay it's so insanely expensive.

I guess i'll have to do as matt suggested & find an orange as close as possible for the job.

damn you!! lol. One reason i was going with orange was because i'd not seen it before on here. The other was obviously because i figured it'd look good (am looking for something light coloured, without being the usual white/silver).

Was hoping for the Focus' Electric Orange colour as it's really quite sharp but will have to find something as close as possible instead.

Or, go with something like Verde Green. Did it on my old derv but it looked shit cos I bodged it and it flaked.
    Gaz

Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring
