    Astra van tyres

    Hi all
I have 7"x17 alloys fitted to my 04 van at present the fronts have 205/40s and the rears have 215/40s, can any on tell me the what is the widest and highest profile tyre that I can fit, I want to fill out the arches and also protect the rims with the wider fitting as the 205s are a bit stretched this leaves the rims opn to damage, I do not want to lower the van.

I realise that a wider and higher profile will alter the speedo so at the same time can the speedo be recalibrated or changed.

    many thanks in advance.

why do u not want to lower it?

a gentle 40mm all round would be ideal and still remain fully practical for carrying loads etc

u really dont want a massively bigger profile than 40% as it'll cause no end of problems- handling will also be seriously comprimised

215.40.17 is the best tyre size - but if u dont want to lower it either leave it like that and look like a john deere special or fit oversized rubber and it'll run like crap...

you could go for a 215/45 or a 225/40 or 225/45 but ur causing more problems in all honesty - stick with 205/40, 215/40 or 215/45 but i would seriously suggest u consider lowering it - its not as if it should bottom out or rub seeing as ur only on 7J rims - check the offset tho - make sure its at least 38mm and if so then u can easily lower it 40mm or so and still have plenty arch space to take up any rear loads etc

    just my opinion of course

    Thanks Geordie bandit

Prehaps I will try the 215/45 or 225/40 option and a bit of lowering maybe 25mm if the kit is available (there are a lot of speed humps around here), I have come from old range rovers where the wheel tyre combination is limitless I was unsure what would happen with an Astra.
Your info gives a few ideas so thanks again.
