    Engine temp gauge

Hi there, I own a 2001 "Y" reg OPEL zafira and the engine temp gauge has stopped working for several months. The car has been working fine and I know I should have got the problem fixed. I have been wondering how easy a job this would be for me to fix. I have little knowlege of engines but I presume it works along the lines of engine sensor reads engine temp and sends message to car display. How easy is it to change the sensor (if this is the cause of the problem). I know I should probably seek proffessional help but it can't be that difficult can it?

    Thank you in anticipation.

    Derek

I take it from engine temp gauge you mean the coolant temp gauge on the left hand side of your clocks. Tis a fairly simple thing to fix and it is IIRC located at the top of the head on the left hand side near the front where the big radiator pipe joins the head (it'll have a plug attached to it that should just clip out). I have no idea what part you need as we would need more info i.e. what engine you have x16, x18 etc.

Hi Moonman, thks for the reply. I have an OPEL Zafira 1.8 16v Elegance, 2001 (Y). What is IIRC? I think I have found what you have described, I'll have to take the engine plastic cover off to get at it, just having a quick look, looks like the plastic protective cable covering around the actual temp sensor cable is or has disintigrated in parts. Could the sensor be OK and the cable be no good?
