    Astra springs - crap?

    hiya,

Is it just me or are astra suspension springs rubbish? about a year ago I had to replace my front springs because on of them had broken which is an MOT failure.

Over the past couple of days I've noticed a rattling sound which sounded like spanners knocking together. I realised this morning that this sound was familiar so I stuck my hand in the wheel arch and produced part of the spring in my hand.

Now I'm not completely gutted cause it gives me an excuse to lower it but surely astra springs shouldn't break this easily?

I don't go over speed humps fast or hard, I like to think I look after my car.

Common fault I reckon, my Mum's 52 plate Mondeo snapped a front spring, my MK4 rears lasted me about 6 years...but hey, sitting mighty nice on Jamex springs now

How many miles did the original springs last ?
    probably done a fair bit...

Did you replace with genuine parts ?
that could explain failure so quick again

    hiya,
I think the originals did about 60k - 70k at a guess. In fairness, the second springs i put on it were second hand and only cost me £20 however I'm told generally coil springs shouldn't break. I'm going down the same road as nry and going for a brand new set of Jamex -40mm's.

Are eibachs worth the extra money over Jamex? (Eibach £120, Jamex £70)

Whoever told you that coil springs shouldnt break is basically talking out of their arse.
Basically its not the quality of the GM parts that are in question (given your origionals lasted 60-70k), mearly the quality of the 2nd hand replacements that were used.

As for replacements, wouldnt go past Eibach.

Are the standard springs on a 2000 plate sport -20mm lower compared with other trim levels?
