    thermostat probs from LMF vaux

Hey folks first off my car is a 1.6 astra g mk4 2000.

have been having probs with the coolant getting up to proper running temps. so i purchased a new thermostat from lmf vaux and the alloy casing had a hairline crack on it, presumably from me over tightening it.

so i had a shot for the second time today and really took my time with this one, put it on as slack as i could then tightened up with equal pressure on each screw. eventually same thing happened again but really with little pressure on the screws/ housing. i'm sending the 2 of them back to see if its a batch failure or am i just putting it on too tight i don't know. have ordered a part from my local vaux dealer, about 3 times the price but at this point i don't care i need it fixed.

anyone else had this prob before? (thermostat being really flimsy, not the temp prob as i know its a common prob lol)

also can't fault LMF on customer service, find everyone i speak to very helpfull.

    thanks for any input folks

totally different design Kris and thus different PNs

any idea which engine it is matey? X16XEL (cat under neath) or Z16XE (cat on manifold)

just in case sum1 has another one lying about (different part numbers on each)

*edit just noticed youve ordered one

if u aint been using a torque wrench get one!!!! about a tenner from screwfix and the likes if not less

just checked the bible and the housing is rated at 8Nm so not a lot of torque at all

might take you up on that offer chris. was looking for a torque wrench on the net but i can't find one that goes down to 8nm. think i'll phone da's and see if i can source a thermo from them.

hey folks for anyone who's interested. got the genuine part from my local vauxhall garage today and had it on within minutes and no problems. the thermo from LMF vaux is of much less quality than the original, which is to be expected i suppose.

but i think anyone else planning a thermo change would be better paying that bit extra for the original and will save a lot of hassle.

car gets up to normal running temps within minutes, job done :-)
