    Post Power Steering Problem

Just recently my power steering has started doing something strange.

When you turn the steering wheel the power steering works fine, but as soon as you come off the turn (ie the split second you start the move the steering wheel the other way) the power steering wheel will 'yank' itself back round about an inch or two before going back to normal operation.

So to exagerate the movement, if i gently move the steering wheel left to right only by a few mm, the power steering will start going crazy and shaking the wheel left to right about 2 inches without me doing anything!

It does this when the car is stationary or when it's moving... which is why i'm quite concerned because it's fighting me when i'm trying to go around corners!

    It's a 2004 1.7 CDTi (100) Club

I've got a diagnostic kit but it didn't come up with any error codes. One thing i did notice was that the throttle sensor was reading 78% with my foot off the pedal and when fully pressed it goes down to about 10%, is this right? would this have anything to do with it or something totally different?

    Thanks

    Update

Update: I took the car to the Vauxhall dealer as i couldn't find any info anywhere and no responses here and they said that i would need to replace the power steering pump... and there was me thinking it might be something simple to replace like a sensor! They quoted me £647 for the job so i smiled politely and ran!

That's a ridiculous price for a pump replacement. They must be charging a fortune in labour.

They didn't give me a breakdown in parts/labour, but i think the pumps are pretty expensive... around £300 from Vauxhall!

Well it's back to the drawing board as i got the steering pump replaced and the problem is still there! My local garage think it must be something electrical now (my first thoughts!!) so i'm getting an electrical specialist to look at it... hopefully this time the diagnostic wont reveal a problem quite so expensive!!

Check the large fuses under the bonnet mate, one of them is for the power steering
