fairly sure P1555 is TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)

but if i recall its sometimes triggered by a dodgy AFM

Seeing as its throttle based - Id give the throttle body a good going over with carb cleaner if u have some. If not its only £3 from a local car shop

air intake ducting off and clean the TB till its nice n shiney - ideal remove it from the car

this MAY improve things but worse case scenario is that the throttle position sensor itself is knackered - this electronic sensor is located near the TB and receives the signal sent from the transmitter at the accelerate pedal to tell it how far to open the throttle etc.

TBs regularly gunk up with carbon so this would be my first step

if it dont help then u can always resort to disconnecting battery for half hour to clear the fault - but obviously if it comes back then its time to delve further

cheers for the help mate going to go get some carb cleaner tomoro and get them off and give them all a good clean see if that solves it, fingers crossed it does, one thing tho would this problem make the car mis fire and run lumpy?

    im presuming its the 1.8

    which year is it?

if its an early 98-00 X18XE1 then it could be an EGR valve causing the problems but the later Z18XE doesnt have one

it certainly could cause lumpiness - if its an early EGR model then even more so

Remember though, u still cant rule out the AFM - if u know anyone with a 1.8 (early or late) or a 2.0 then u can borrow their one to see if it improves

    random google found this:
