    Weird ticking noise

Ive just been out in the car and noticed a weird loud ticking noise coming from the engine. It started getting louder the more i drove it and i noticed it also gets louder when i give it some. I had a quick look and it seems to be coming from the back of the engine, couldnt really see in the dark. Does anyone know what it could be or is it me just being paranoid. The car is a 1.6 16v astra

hmmm take a video of it.

Does the ticking go away when the engine's warmed up?

If it does then it might just be the hydrualic tappets which is normal(So i'm told)

That sounds exactly what mine was suffering from - 1.6 16 Sxi (2002)...

... and its the inlet manifold!!!!

Does it do more when you lift off the throttle and only over 3000rpm ? This is how mine started, then got worse and did it all the time - sounded like someone literally tapping a hammer on the back of the block.

Take it to a dealer and get them to have a good look at it (ask nicely and they'll fit you in) - Gary at my dealer spent a good 5 mins listening with a stethoscope!!!!

I got one delivered from breakersyard.com for £50, paid £70 to get it fitted (didn't have the time or patience to do it myself) and all silent again!

...Otherwise its £370 from the dealer plus fitting!!!!
... indicators do not give you right of way!!!

yeh it seems to be more when the engine is warm. I drove the car today and it didnt start doing it until i did about 40 miles and then it started doing it again, i pulled over and filled up at the petrol station, started the car up again and it stopped. Ill have to take it after christmas and ask them if they will have a look 4 me. I hope its not the inlet manifold as thats £120 that i dont have at the momentm with crimbo etc. I just dont understand why it only does it when warm or when i put my foot down.

just checked the oil again tonight to double check it was ok and it seemed to be down, from what it was a couple of days ago, topped it up and the ticking seems to have stopped for now, fingers crossed.
