    Removing EGR on Y17DT, Advantages/Disadvantages?

I think my EGR is playing up i sometimes have the EML on and there is a funny whistling noise coming from the EGR location (only when turbo spools up) so i'm thinking about removing the EGR system.

I want to know if there is any downsides to removing it and any plus points? I guess fuel consuumption would be worse without it, but i cant see it being alot.

Will it throw up ECU faults and put the EML on if i remove it?

    Thanks very much, Simon!

remove it to clean it and check the vacuum hoses for air leaks but refit it again unless u want the car to run like shit and trip the EML even more

have u read the fault codes yet?

I havent read the fault codes yet, i was trying to see if i could use the paperclip method but it seems my van is too new? (2000 Astravan with Y17DT)

Why would the engine run like shit without the egr? Some people do it to gain performance don't they?

the only ppl that do it are those that cant be arsed replacing a faulty unit and think its gotta be for the best - then again try it n see

try the pedal method and see if it works - might not tho as ive had the same problems on other dervs

???????????? have you removed the egr on yours, didnt think so. been running mine for over 23k now and in that time its put the eml on 2-3 times, it runs a lot better now and it helps to reduce smoke when running high boost

if its illegal to smoke until the age of 18 my astra should of been locked up ages ago!

So it could potentially throw the EML on because it thinks the EGR is broken but its really removed?

it takes some of the waste exhaust gasses and puts them back into the engine, only really done to try and reduce smoke but after a few k they soot up and make it worse any way
