    Dads Astra stolen

Dads 2003 blue Astra was stolen from drive . We've reported it to the police but he wants to know if its worth going through insurance. Cars probably only worth 2k at most and he doesn't want to loose his no claims as they aren't protected. He also seems to think insurance wont pay him either because he has his keys :/

    Any advise is appreciated

Humm, why insure the car in the 1st place?
Tell me what you've done, not what you're going to!

If you're Dad still has his keys then why does he think they'll not pay out? Surely that's pretty much proof they nicked it?

He'll only lose a single year of NCD I believe, so overall he'd lose much less than the value of the car in my opinion.

He'll lose two years no claims.

However the maximum you can register is 5 years so he'll end up with 3 years, whatever.

He wont loose that much on his ncd 2 years at the most i would say , And the fact he has still got his keys proves the car has been stolen , So if it was me I would certainly be making a claim thats why I pay insurance every year , I certainly wouldn't write 2k off just like that

Kind of curious about this too - if you don't use your fully comp benefits in the worst possible case - when would you use them ?

That being said sorry to hear it, seems to be too many of these threads lately. Hope it's found in a good condition...

Thats the stupidest question ive heard - why insure in first place???

Becasue the car must be insured to be used and kep on a public road, and if it was being driven without insurance he would receive points, a fine and most probably the car would be confiscated and crushed.

    WTF ???
The question was being asked because the owner wasn't sure if it was worth making a claim on his insurance or not ,
We all know the legal reasons for having insurance
