Question Astra MK4 1.8 - Engine stays on cold and heaters barely work.

    Hey!

I have had this car about 5 weeks. my old diesel used to stay at 90c all the time however this one the needle only moves when you have the heaters off and even then it hardly moves. It takes ages for the heaters to warm up.

I have heard this is the thermostat? What is it/what does it do and where is it?

. I didn't want to hijack the other persons thread in here.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Its located in various places but its usually bolted to the side of the head and can be identified by the waterpipes going in n out of it. it allows water to the radiator when the engines hot but bypasses it when its cold. vauxhall thermostats fail safe to prevent over heating, so its constantly sending water to the rad. in this wheather your engine will never get up to temp. hence the reason why your heaters don't work. its quite a simple job to change it but i can't say exactly how much it will cost or the exact location of your thermostat. sorry - hope this helps
