    Law regarding HID

Sure this has been asked many times before, but what is the ACTUAL law for these, i know you probly wont get pulled for it and it passes a mot but whats the correct law to make them fully legal when fitting.

    Thanks.

for them to be fully legal the car has to have self leveling headlights and headlight washer jets.

    thats it

if u dont have 1 or either of those they arent 100% road legal yet the police wont bother stopping you over them and if they did they would just give u a vehicle defect form so u have to have a MOT guy check them out (and pay usually £5)

What about the projector lense ? as if fitted to standard lights the beam is scatterd with HID's blinding oncoming traffic

H7R bulbs I believe are more suited to the normal MK4 headlights as they have the same reflector built in as the 'OEM' bulbs. Bit more expensive to buy though, eBay for common HID kits is ~£35, whereas the H7R kits are ~£60.

So i would need the H7R hid kit as the astra mk4 hasn't got the projector type lights instead of the normal H7 kit? will the H7R stop the beam from scattering?
Just about to buy a set but i wanna make sure i get the right type

so you can never get them fully legal right? Because i can stop the beam scattering if you buy the right kit, i can get jet washers, but you cant ever make them self level without serious bit of kit?

Right. Without spending a lot on self levelling (may have better luck looking at fitting self-levelling airbag suspension which is also valid), they won't be technically legal. I'd be surprised if you had projectors, showed them your washers, and still got defected though.

I thought that you only needed self levelling and washers for OE HIDs though.

I am fully prepared to be contradicted as I am not 100% though!

Spot on mate . . Someone speaks sense at last . . .

All the above criteria is just for factory fitted xenons . . Its even covered in the latest set of guidelines i believe for mot testers
