Both the clio172 (phase2) and mk4 astra gsi? I used to have a 2.2 mk4 sri but i prefer the clio, although ive always liked the gsi's. Just been lookin at a few pics of them and really fancying one. Just wondering if anyone has owned the 2 cars and what their opinions are. ta.

Ive worked for both Vauxhall and Renault, the is NO comparison to build quality, Renault is terrible imo!

I would not evan think twice.

Get a GSI fella, you wont be disapionted.

Clio 172 are awsome cars, like go karts. Look smart standard. And come with the best style wheels, the cup and 182 wheels look ****. Pretty reliable as far as Renaults go.

depends what you are after speed handling or reliablility 172 has speed and handling gsi has reliability and speed but a standard gsi will stay with a standard 172 theres not much diffrence

If you hated your SRi, there isn't much point getting a GSi IMO. May as well get the Clio and hope it doesn't drop to bits

Renault sports aint that bad for reliabilty in general. I worked at Renault and never really had common problems with any of the Sport range. And Clio's handle immense, probs the best small hatch in its class. I'd have a clio sport over a corsa VXR

I've had both, currently have the gsi but had a 172 before. IMO the Clio is a wicked little fun car to drive, very quick for a small car and you'll see yourself giving lots of bigger cars problems. But i'm afraid thats it, build quailty is shocking, they develope a new "rattle" everyday and a standard exhaust system generally lasts less than 30k!!

Only reason I would buy one again would be to track it.

Yeah they handle great from what I've heard but still get beaten around tracks by 106 GTI's and Saxo VTS's

I've never heard of much going wrong with 172's, at least thye haven't got a turbo to go pop on them
