    Mk4 1.8 16v tuning

    Has any1 on here gat a tuned Mk4 1.8 16v??
Im looking 2 do some more performance mods 2 my engine & was wondering What sort of bhp im looking @ gaining 4 certain things.
Just wondering what tuning mods other 1.8 owners have & weather any have been on an RR with them.

    I currently have the following:
    De-restricted airbox,
    K&N Pannel filter,
    Vecci C air intake,
    BlueFlame S/S cat-back system.
    Straight through De-cat pipe.

I am getting a Lexmaul 4:2:1 (4 branch) S/S manifold from LMF after Xmas & was wondering the best ways to go from there please??

I was thinking about the following:
Kent / Piper cams (which ones are best please????),
    Lightweight Venier pullies,
    ECU Remap,
    Performance chip.

But am unsure on the best order 2 go about getting them & roughly what BHP gain i would be looking 4 each mod please? Also any other mods that would increase the performance / bhp please???

Any recomendations would be great .
    Thanks in advance .

Yea then you can carry on being slow but act all smug cos you're the fastest N/A engined Astra ... except the mk3 red top GSI ... and the mk2 red top GSI ... infact ... skip this part and move onto:

If you want a fast Astra, buy an LE* engined one.

If you want alot of cheap speed, buy an Evo/Impreza.

    You've missed my point completely.

By the mods the OP has listed the best he's gonna see (if lucky) is a 20-25bhp increase. Why bother spending time and money on mods that might or might not increase performance when you can buy a 2.2 which has 145-150 bhp right out the box.

I disagree...the mods you mention (manifold included) may well see you hit 135bhp or so...add in the cams and remap and you'll likely hit or go above the standard 2.2 bhp easily. There was a 1.6 16v with similar mods to those you mention that managed 140bhp so the same on the 1.8 16v should see noticeably more. If the basic derestrict, Vectra intake, panel filter, catback sees me hit 117bhp/131ft-lbs on my Z16XE then no reason why you'd not see similar gains over the OEM figures on the Z18XE which has more bhp to start with anyhow!

Why do people keep slating the 1.6 and 1.8 engines? They have vast potential for those who want to stick with them. Even the 1.6 16v can happily reach 150bhp without massive money being spent, certainly less than a full 2L turbo conversion...yeah I know, more power from the turbo etc etc, but that's not what modifying your car is all about for everyone.

fast road cams, ported and polished head and a lightweight flywheel should make it a fair bit quicker

Yes, a well tuned 1.8 could produce more power than a standard 2.2 but obviously a tuned 2.2 would produce even more with the same money spent. When the 2 cars are generally costing the same amount to buy it surely makes more sense to start with the bigger lump? Anyway i don't think the op wanted to change his vehicle just some advice on tuning a 1.8...
