    Which do I choose . . .

After a lot of thinking, I decided on buying myself a new car in June, when insurance runs out and I get 2 years NCB. The problem is I don't know what to go for.

Option One: MK4 Astra Coupe Turbo

Option Two: MK5 Astra Sporthatch 1.9 CDTI 150

(Before anybody mentions it yes I checked insurance on both of them)

I commute to work everyday and tend to have to drive to clients (I'm an auditor) on occassions so generally motorways and country roads.

What do you all think? Please vote and leave comments.

CDTI 150 without question. Cracking performance (more so with a tuning box or remap) and way more economical for daily driving!

    Diesel, you wont look back

Performance would be similar but the economy would be 40mpg+

Not to mention the vast improvment that the Mk 5 is over the Mk 4 imo.

I'm going to say the SRi-T as it's a rarer car and still a turbo.

But for your job, I'd suggest teh 1.9CDTi, mainly for the fuel economy, but also the fast that they are quite nippy lil motors

If your doing the miles to warrent it, go for the 1.9, otherwise the turbo should be a much nicer drive

Just need to budget the fact that

    a) the MK5 will cost more to buy
    b) Diesel is more expensive

So you will need to do a lot of miles before you start to save any money

The fuel issue isn't really a problem for me as I can afford the weekly fill-up bill.

The budget is where it could all go wrong, I need to keep my MK4 now until I have a new car because I need it to get to and from work, unless of course I part-ex it.

    Budget would probably be:

    £5000 in a pot
    £900-1100 part-ex
£1000 from my rents (pay it back over two months)
    ------
    £7000 (ish)

Yeah, but used obviously. It's all due to this lovely credit crunch we are in. I'm sad, I've just started to earn some decent money so I'm doing great in this recession. Is it wrong to hope that prices continue to fall

Coupe turbo's are even cheaper. Theres a few for sale near me; the best buy is a black coupe, full irmscher kit, red leather, 45K miles and FVSH for £3,500.
