    Adive On Purchasing A Laptop

    Hello

My mum is looking to buy a laptop for my 16 year old sister
I'm 17 and am not very knowledgable when it comes to laptops except the fact they i understand all laptops come with Vusta nowadays
and it is highly recomended to have at least 2GB of RAM in order to run it?

My mum is not the richest person in the world, and i told ehr i dont want anything for christmas this year, and to sue my money towards getting my sister a better laptop

Ideally she would like to spend about £200-£300
We have been looking at Mini-Laptops
But they all seem to have LINUX installed on them?
How different is LINUX to windows?
Does is affect the programs that you can use/install?
What is the operating system like, easy to use?
My sister will mainly use the laptop for uploading pictures from digi-cams, mobile phones, myspace/facebook etc
    Windows Messenger Chat

    Thanks a lot guys

    Hi there,

You can pick a good laptop on for that kind of usage (surfing facebook/myspace etc etc) for 300 pounds.

If you could get a laptop with Windows XP that would be better than getting Windows Vista. Windows vista is not a good operating system and i personally think they have put more detail into the way it looks rather than the way it operates.

For someone who does not know much about Laptops i would get a computer with Windows rather than Linux as linux is very complex and not many programs out there run on Linux.

On google look for a company called CCL or Ebuyer, they do great deals.. Although i would hang on till jan sales if poss

Linux runs loads, is highly adaptable and not overly complex tbh. you can also run most core Microsft programs on it as well i think with a lil compatability updates.

I run a Vaio on Vista at 2GB Ram and dont find many probs either. and i run alot of simultaneuos programs and software to as well as intensive ones!!
and if its being used only for what you say it will Vista will be fine as you wont be running many intensive programs either!!

i honestly dont know why people slate vista all the time, its a brilliant OS. loads better than XP and more secure. though it is pretty pointless on a laptop, unless its really top end. go with XP as mentioned.

Linux is a free operating system too. so cant say much for the company whos selling laptops with Linux

id personaly go with ebuyer, CCL can be a little expensive at times.

wait till the boxing day sales!
