    Embarassing Brakes!

    Hi all,

My Astra brakes have an annoying habit of squeeking really loudly when I brake.

This doesn't happen all the time, only after the car has been sat around for at least a couple of hours or more. Also, it only happens when I brake for the first few times (i.e. have used the brakes fully). It is then fine!

I don't think its anything major but it's just annoying and embarassing!

Could it be to do with moisture on the brakes maybe?

    Any help appreciated,
    Adam

Check whether the pads are intact or not

Mine were gone when they were squeaking

Also could be grit between the pads and disc maybe

bit of copper grease on the back of the pad worked on my old car... not the side that grips the disc or you will have a big accident!

i have squeky brakes to, but not all the time... only when used heavily, or in the event of a race, or in the event of a emergency

    Drums at the back rule!

Generally its a build up of crap in the drum from the brake shoes, or worn out shoes. Worth whipping the drum off to check and give them a clean out. Sometimes pulling the handbrake on lightly at low speed can clear the crap out.

Mine squeak only on light braking too. Is this related to the original problem?
