    98 1.7 Astra ECU fault?

    Hi Guys,

I know nothing about this engine to be honest! My friend has a 98 1.7 Astra which I guess will be the Isuzu engine?

Its gone into a garage and been diagnosed as an ECU failure? There is a company who recon them on ebay at £60.

    My questions:

    A. How common is this issue

    B. Is having the ECU re-conned likely to solve it

    C. Once the ECU is back is it just plug and play or is coding required?

    Cheers

    Chris

Common as muck. You can take the back off and re-solder the dry joints if yo know what your doing. Or, get the one off ebay and just plug in and go.

Cool thanks for your reply chap.

This would cause the car to not start, I'm told it almost appears to be out of fuel?

I have not seen the car myself just going on what I'm told.

Thanks very much for your help, so to confirm a 2nd hand unit will just plug in and off she goes again?

    something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MK4-VAUXHALL-A...1%7C240%3A1318

    are they all the same?

Isnt the 98 model TD,which is different from TDI?

From what I gathered TD were 97-2000,then the TDI etc.. were 2000+.

I'll be bloody happy if Im wrong as my repair bill is quoted at £600-£700!
