    astra g s plate big problems !

bought a astra g s plated 1.6 8v estate with a slight front end bat!! having run astra,s for the last 20 years this is one of the few i have had problems with anyone any idea,s??
here are a list of problems
when at start up the cooling fan runs at full beans (intermitently!)
the temp gauge gets no higher than very bottom level (sensor changed even tryed shorting the pins to earth and each other! no change)
managment light stays on (lamba sensor changed)
when my scanner is plugged in it can not communicate with the ecu just says communications error (scanner works fine used it on my 1.6 8v mark 4 van)
this model had air con that has been done away with as the rad was u/s so was just disconected

    heater works fine
    engine runs well
starts no problems drives ok just probs as listed above

With all those problems & the EML being on, you could try this if your model has the OBD connection under the handbrake faceplate.

Go to Paperclip self-diagnosis test for early mk4s

Thanks to GeordieBandit for the link & how-to.

    It may help.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open and therefore not allowing the water to get up to temperature.

If you have unpluged the electric connector to you aircon rad, your fans will stay on, and the radlight on the dash will stay on......

thats the reason why the fan is running all the time...the aircon has been disconnected but the electronics are still looking for it...so you either need to reinstate the aircon or find a way to fool the system into believe its there
