    Stalling and won't rev..... EGR?????

    Yes, I know, I know....

But just to make sure of symptoms and cause, if my car is stalling coming up to junctions and seems to have to top end power (in fact, struggles to top 80 on the motorway) am I right in thinking its the dreaded EGR valve?

First time I've has this problem in over 6 years from new.

    Cheers

    andy

Yep thats it... very strong reluctance to rev over 4000 and just won't go over 80mph!!!

Gave the EGR a clean out last night, and also put some Tesco Super Unleaded in and its made some difference (its not stalling now) but the rev problems still there!

Going to get a blanking plate from ebay and give that a go..!

    I'll let you know!

i got ablanking plate and it cured the surging, but it gives patchy acceleration with a lot of flat spots,

there *may* be an update from vauxhall to remove the egr from the ecu

Did you remove the EGR completey and have the software re-programmed? If not I think the ECU may still be looking for it?

Scroll down this link and it tells about actually keeping the EGR still attached to the loom, but just sliding it out of the way a bit.

thats how ive got it set up, ive got the egr valve hanging off one bolt on top of the blanking plate and it still has patchy acceleration, im guessing the ecu software is taking into account the mixture that would be right when the egr valve is open, obviously when its not opening and the gas isnt going back into the intake its getting the mixture wrong, thats how ive heard it works anyway, thats why you need the software rewrite to a map that doesnt involve the egr

crank angle sensore possibly? that went on mine and the symptoms sound very similar. Difference is mine wouldnt rev over 5k at all, the ecu must have dropped the rev limit
